Total refinery output in Oman rises by 1.3%

Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman’s total refinery production recorded a 1.3% growth by the end of May 2025, while automobile fuel production increased by 10.7%.

Preliminary statistics issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) showed that production of regular-gasoline (91) automobile fuel rose by 10.7%, reaching 7.393 million barrels by the end of May 2025, compared to 6.6773 million barrels during the same period in 2024. Sales of this fuel increased by 2.2%, reaching 5.8042 million barrels, while exports declined by 5.7% to 1.234 million barrels.

Production of premium-gasoline (95) automobile fuel saw a slight decrease of 1.2%, totalling 5.3331 million barrels compared to 5.4005 million barrels in the same period of 2024. However, its sales rose by 1.3%, reaching 5.3806 million barrels, while exports grew by 20.6% to 690,700 barrels.

Gas oil (diesel) production increased by 3.4%, reaching 13.667 million barrels compared to 13.2115 million barrels by the end of May 2024. Sales rose by 5.3%, totaling 5.9889 million barrels, while exports declined by 12.5% to 6.6807 million barrels.

Jet fuel production decreased by 14%, reaching 4.1452 million barrels compared to 4.82 million barrels in the same period of 2024. Sales fell by 9.1% to 1.5151 million barrels, while exports dropped by 15.6% to 2.4465 million barrels.

Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) production saw a marginal increase of 0.3%, reaching 3.1922 million barrels compared to 3.1814 million barrels in the corresponding period of 2024. Sales rose by 20.8% to 1.6282 million barrels, while exports declined sharply by 53.6% to 109,900 barrels.

Regarding petrochemicals, statistics indicated that benzene production increased by 8.5%, reaching 74,300 metric tons compared to 68,500 metric tons in the same period of 2024. Paraxylene production rose by 3.1%, reaching 224,100 metric tons by the end of May 2025, compared to 217,300 metric tons by the end of May 2024.

Polypropylene production by the end of May 2025 surged by 47.4%, reaching 148,000 metric tonnes compared to 100,400 metric tonnes in the same period last year. However, sales declined by 8.4%, totalling 13,700 metric tonnes compared to 15,000 metric tonnes in the previous year.

On the export front, benzene exports by the end of May 2025 reached 72,700 metric tonnes, marking a 5.9% increase compared to 68,600 metric tonnes by the end of May 2024. Paraxylene exports rose by 15.3%, reaching 253,200 metric tonnes compared to 219,600 metric tonnes in the same period last year. Polypropylene exports saw a significant growth of 44.6%, reaching 109,900 metric tonnes compared to 76,000 metric tonnes in the same period of 2024.
