Muscat: The ICC Level 1 Basic Umpiring Course was successfully conducted at the Oman Cricket Academy in Al Amerat from 6–10 August 2025. The program was led by ICC educators, Mr. Rahul Asher and Mr. Vinod Babu, and saw an encouraging participation of 31 aspiring umpires, including four female participants, reflecting the growing interest in cricket officiating across Oman.
The five-day training focused on the fundamental Laws of Cricket, ensuring participants gained a strong foundation in the principles of umpiring. Through a combination of classroom sessions, interactive discussions, and practical assessments, attendees were introduced to best practices that will enable them to officiate matches at the grassroots and domestic level.
Oman Cricket has been committed to building capacity in all areas of the game, and this initiative highlights the board’s efforts to enhance the standard of umpiring and to provide opportunities for participation in cricket.
The successful completion of the course marks another important step in strengthening Oman’s cricketing ecosystem and preparing a new qualified umpires to support the continued growth of the game in the Sultanate.
