Muscat: 'The Lamir Project', a youth initiative transforming a waterway into an integrated tourist destination in Salalah, Dhofar Governorate.
Youth initiatives and entrepreneurship are a fundamental pillar in supporting the national economy and enhancing the foundations of sustainable development. They contribute to the creation of unique projects that reflect the creativity of Omani youth and capitalize on natural and environmental potential, thus enhancing tourism and economic activity across various governorates.
In this context, the Lamir Tourism Project in the Al Mughsail area of Salalah Governorate has emerged as one of the innovative youth initiatives launched by a number of young people with the aim of transforming one of the waterways leading to Khor Fadkhit into a natural and contemporary tourist destination.
Nader bin Bakhit Fadhil, the project's founder, explained that Lamir Al Mughsail was first launched during the 2022 Khareef Dhofar season, to be a qualitative addition to the governorate's tourism sector by capitalizing on the unique assets of the Al Mughsail area, including its silver beaches, natural fountains, and proximity to Al Marneef Cave.
He emphasised that the idea stemmed from a desire to present a model for sustainable local investment that enhances the governorate's attractiveness and consolidates its position. As an integrated tourist destination.
Fadhil explained that the project's facilities were designed to meet the aspirations of various segments of the population, including a corner for restaurants and cafes, a children's play area and bicycle rides, boat tours to explore the waterway in Khor Fadkhit, an artificial waterfall that adds an aesthetic and recreational element, and beach seating areas for visitors' comfort.
He pointed out that the project's economic and social value lies in providing a seasonal source of income for youth, supporting the local economy, and building practical experience in the tourism sector. Furthermore, it is an environmentally friendly project by reorganizing the valley's course and transforming it into a clean, organized space that takes sustainability into account.
The project's founder emphasised that "Lamir Al Mughsail" embodies the youth's vision of building contemporary tourist destinations based on local investment, creativity, and innovation, while adhering to environmental sustainability. It serves as an inspiring model for quality youth projects and contributes to enhancing the governorate's tourist destinations.
