Ibri: The pastoral nursery affiliated to the Directorate General of Agricultural Wealth and Water Resources in A’Dhahirah Governorate has seen a notable increase in the number of seedlings distributed to beneficiaries in 2024, exceeding 8,000 seedlings of various types.
The Directorate emphasised that pastoral plants are among the fundamental components of the local environment, as they grow naturally and withstand harsh climatic conditions, contributing to soil protection, increased vegetation cover, and the provision of a suitable habitat for wildlife.
In a statement to Oman News Agency (ONA), the Directorate indicated that the number of pastoral seedlings produced at the nursery reached approximately 8,347, which were distributed to 385 beneficiaries, including farmers, beekeepers, and a number of governmental and private entities.
The distributed seedlings included a range of indigenous species with environmental and economic value.
These seedlings are distributed free of charge to livestock breeders, honeybee keepers, rural women, and farmers to help improve soil quality and provide the nectar necessary for producing high-quality local honey—particularly Sidr and Samar honey—thereby boosting economic returns for beneficiaries.
Through this initiative, the Directorate seeks to engage the local community in environmental conservation efforts, promote shared environmental responsibility, and ensure the sustainability of natural resources, in line with national objectives to support the green economy and the development of Omani rural areas.
