Salalah: The 4th edition of Salalah Engineering Forum kicked off on Sunday in Salalah, Dhofar Governorate. The 2-day forum is organised by Oman Society of Engineers (OSE) in cooperation with the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology.
The opening ceremony was held under the auspices of Eng. Said Hamoud Al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology.
Attended by experts, engineers and specialists in the fields of engineering, logistics and supply chains, the forum reflects OSE’s efforts to promote cooperation with the public and private sectors. It also seeks to review challenges and explore innovative solutions for modernizing the logistics engineering system in the Sultanate of Oman.
The first day of the forum included 18 working papers on introducing applicable solutions and global practices and international experiences that can benefit Oman’s logistics centres.
The participants discussed resilience in operating logistic networks as a means to address challenges and deal with crises. They studied models to protect the environment against the impacts of carbon footprint and reviewed the skills needed to develop the human capital in a manner that empowers national competencies and infrastructure operational efficiency in supply chains.
The forum focuses on the vital role of the logistics sector as a key driver in diversifying the national economy and enhancing the process of integrating engineering and innovation with logistics services to improve supply chains and cut down costs.
The forum also aims to upgrade the Sultanate of Oman's competitiveness in regional and global markets through the development of ports, airports and free zones--with the prime objective of developing Oman as a strategic gateway linking the GCC with East Africa and Asia.
