Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the State Audit Institution (SAI), took part on Wednesday in the 22nd Meeting of Heads of Accounting and Financial Audit Bureaus of the GCC countries, held in Kuwait.
Oman’s delegation is headed by Sheikh Ghuson Hilal Al Alawi, Chairman of the State Audit Institution.
Sheikh Ghuson delivered a speech in which he emphasised the importance of strengthening cooperation among the audit bureaus of the GCC countries, in a manner that contributes to the development of audit work and the exchange of leading practices and experiences. He noted that audit institutions undertake a pivotal role in protecting public fund and establishing the principles of integrity and transparency, in addition to continuing joint efforts to support the paths of GCC integration in the audit and financial fields, in line with the developmental and economic directions of the member states.
The meeting discussed several key topics, most notably the review of the report on the recommendations and outcomes of the Strategic Training Plan (2023–2025), and the discussion of the Strategic Training Plan (2026–2028). The meeting also addressed the results of the sixth GCC competition for audit and accounting research and studies, as well as the draft regulations for the Award of Excellence in Public Service within the audit and accounting bureaus of GCC countries. In addition, the joint training plan for employees of the audit and accounting bureaus in the GCC for the years 2026 and 2027 was presented.
Furthermore, the meeting reviewed several proposals, most notably the proposal from the Audit Working Group regarding the designation of a GCC Financial and Accounting Audit Week, and the proposal from Audit Rules Working Group concerning the impact assessment form for the implementation of manuals issued by the GCC Secretariat, as well as the form for simplifying the use of manuals in audit work.
They also considered the proposal from the Audit Working Group regarding the renaming of the team, in addition to reviewing the recommendations included in the minutes of the 25th meeting of the Rules of Audit Working Group. Furthermore, the participants were briefed on the Secretariat’s report on the training programs implemented in 2024–2025, and on a Memorandum of Understanding between King Fahd National Library and the GCC Secretariat.
