New York: Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamoud Al Busaidi, Minister of Foreign Affairs , delivered the Sultanate of Oman's speech at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly on Saturday, September 27, 2025.
His Excellency the Minister affirmed that the Palestinian cause remains at the forefront of urgent humanitarian and political priorities, and that the time has come to end the occupation, lift the injustice suffered by the Palestinian people, and enable them to realize their legitimate rights through the implementation of the two-state solution, as this is the only path to a just and lasting peace in the Middle East.
His Excellency explained that recognizing the Palestinian state is the most important step at this critical stage in the history of the Palestinian cause, expressing the Sultanate of Oman's appreciation for the governments that have recognized the Palestinian state.
His Excellency the Minister also stressed the need for international measures to limit the Israeli government's ability to continue its violations of international laws, norms, and humanitarian values. He called for a peaceful global campaign to lift the siege and injustice imposed on the Palestinian people and establish their independent, sovereign state.
In this context, His Excellency expressed the Sultanate of Oman's full solidarity with the sisterly State of Qatar in confronting the recent Israeli aggression targeting it, affirming its right to take whatever measures it deems appropriate to protect its security and sovereignty. He also reiterated the Sultanate of Oman's condemnation of the Israeli aggression against Iran, Yemen, Syria, and Lebanon, calling for the imposition of international sanctions on Israel for its flagrant violations of international law and its unlawful encroachment on the sovereignty of states.
In another part of his speech, His Excellency Al Sayed pointed out that the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations represents an occasion to renew our commitment to the purposes of the UN Charter, foremost among which is the settlement of disputes through dialogue and peaceful means.
He emphasized that the international community, particularly the permanent members of the Security Council, must enable the Secretary-General to fulfill his role and enhance cooperation with him to support the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those related to stimulating economic growth, creating job opportunities, encouraging innovation, combating poverty, and achieving food, health, and energy security.
His Excellency also highlighted Oman's national priorities in education and health, as they are fundamental rights for all and pillars of development. He also highlighted support for digital transformation, artificial intelligence applications, innovation, and manufacturing, and strengthening the social protection system and job security.
He also emphasized Oman's commitment to empowering youth with education and knowledge and providing them with opportunities to contribute to development, as they are the driving force behind innovation and the knowledge economy.
His Excellency concluded his remarks by emphasizing that the world is experiencing one of the most complex and intertwined periods of international crises. This requires strengthening adherence to international and humanitarian law, supporting the role of the United Nations and its institutions in consolidating international peace and security, and disseminating a culture of justice, tolerance, and mutual respect as a means of achieving peoples' aspirations for freedom and prosperity and building a prosperous future characterized by stability and fairness.
