Duqm: The identities of those killed in the Duqm road accident on Wednesday have been revealed by the Chairman of Bangladesh Social Club in Oman, Sirajul Haque.
“Unfortunately, most of the dead were Bangladeshi expatriates who were going to their work site in Duqm. Their names are: Amin Sawdagar, Arju, Mohd Roki, Mohammed Bablu, Mohd Sahabuddin, Jowel and Roni. They were all from Chattogram region of Bangladesh,” said Sirajul Haque, the Chairman of Bangladesh Social Club in Oman, in a somber note.
Talking about the accident, he said the vehicle collided with a large fishing container truck on the road, leaving eight Bangladeshi workers dead and the driver critically injured. The injured driver was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, Haque added.
An official from the Bangladesh Embassy in Muscat has reached the accident site to provide necessary assistance. The bodies of the deceased have been kept in different hospitals in the area.
The embassy will take necessary measures to send the bodies back to Bangladesh following due procedures,he said.
He said the accident occurred around 3:00 pm (local time) on Wednesday, and the injured driver was rushed to a nearby hospital.
Earlier, eight persons were killed and two others were injured in a traffic accident in Duqm, according to the Ministry of Health.
The Ministry of Health extended its condolences to the families of the deceased and wished speedy recovery to the injured.
