Bank Muscat celebrates winning teams in Green Sports programme for 2025

Muscat: In emphasis of its pioneering role in corporate social responsibility, community development and the youth, Bank Muscat, the leading financial service provider in the Sultanate of Oman, recently organised an event celebrating the 20 winning teams for this year’s 14th edition of the “Green Sports” programme. The event was held under the patronage of H.E. Syed Suleiman Bin Hamoud Al Busaidi, Chairman of Oman Football Association and attended by executives from the Bank and representatives of the winning sports teams. Since its inauguration in 2012, the programme has benefitted 223 teams with over 77,000 members across the Sultanate of Oman.

Flagship CSR programme
The Green Sports programme is one of the Bank’s flagship CSR programmes aiming at sporting skills of the Omani talented youth in the sports and cultural domains. The support provided by the programme includes greening of football pitches, water desalination and lighting. In addition, the programme annually receives excellent participation by sports teams from across the Governorates desiring to enhance green spaces for the Omani youth to improve their sporting skills by equipping these spaces with sports facilities. This year, over 90 teams have competed, thereby asserting the programme’s success and popularity among Omani youth.

During the celebration, Hamza Abbas Al Ajmi, Deputy General Manager – Credit, Bank Muscat, delivered a speech where he said: “Local sports teams play a crucial role in the Sultanate, empowering talented Omani youth and supporting their aspirations. The Green Sports programme, developed over 14 years, underscores this importance, making a significant impact on social responsibility and sustainability initiatives. It has fostered new strategies to enhance local teams and benefit the community, while improving infrastructure for organized sports and social events and competitions. I extend my heartfelt congratulations to this year’s winning teams and wish them continued success.”

Expressing his happiness and pride, Eng. Khalid Said Al Zaabi, Team Head of Al Shati Sports Cultural Team from Al Suwaiq, said: “We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude for Bank Muscat for their Green Sports programme and the generous support extended to our team. This initiative exemplifies the Bank’s dedication to empowering youth and improving sports infrastructure, ultimately fostering a sustainable environment that inspires excellence. We are committed to continuing the hard work put into this project to support various activities and programmes that benefit the community.”

A significant transformation
From his side, Said Khalfan Al Jahdhami, Team Head of Al Qadisiyah Sports Team from Al Madaibi, said: “The lighting project for our team’s fields represents not only an upgrade to the infrastructure, but a significant transformation for the local community, benefitting various segments of society. This initiative will create new opportunities for hosting games and social activities, transforming the field into a vibrant hub for all. We are committed to continuing our efforts on this project to sustain its positive impact and strengthen the collaborative partnership between the private sector and the community.”

Bank Muscat has recently announced the winning sports teams across the Sultanate who benefited from the support provided by the programme. The winners in the lighting system category include: Izki Jernan Sports Team from Izki, Al Shati Sports Cultural Team from Al Suwaiq, Al Ahly Sports Cultural Team from Saham, Al Yarmouk Sports Cultural Team from Al Khaboora, Al Nahda Sports Cultural Team from Sohar, Al khalij Sports Cultural Team from Shinas, Al Shala Sports And Cultural Team from Al Rustaq, Ithadh Hadra Sports Team from Jalan Bani Bu Hasan, Al Aruba Sport Team from Nizwa, Al Shuaiba Sports Cultural and Social Team from Al Musanaah, Al Qadisiyah Sports Team from Al Madaibi, and Al Bahri Sports and Cultural Team from Liwa. In addition, Nujoom Blad Al Shahoum Sports Social and Cultural Team from Ibri, Al Mazzarra Sports Team from Quriyat, Al Sahwa Sports Team from Bidbid, AL Habil Sports and Cultural Team from Al Hamra, Al Ahly Sports and Cultural Team from Al Awabi, Al Zamalek Sports Team from Al Seeb, and AL Kor Sports Team from Bahla for natural turf category. Finally, Al Ahed Sports and Cultural Team from Sur won for artificial turf.
