State Council examines data governance, digital economy

Muscat: The State Council convened its regular session on Monday under the chairmanship of Sheikh Abdulmalik bin Abdullah Al Khalili, Council’s Chairman, addressing several key agenda items during the proceedings.

The session featured a comprehensive review of the Technology and Innovation Committee’s study entitled “Data Management and Governance and Their Impact on the Digital Economy.”

This strategic study aims to strengthen the legislative and regulatory framework governing national records systems, leverage international best practices in data governance, and establish an integrated framework for data management and security.

Additionally, the study proposes enabling legislation to facilitate secure and efficient data sharing and exchange mechanisms.

These discussions form part of ongoing institutional development initiatives designed to enhance the Council’s legislative oversight capabilities and operational effectiveness.

The Council’s Chairman, underscored the critical importance of maintaining collaborative responsibility and integrated approaches throughout the third ordinary session of the eighth term.

He emphasised building upon achievements realised during previous sessions to strengthen the Council’s national presence and reinforce its substantive contribution to Oman’s comprehensive development trajectory.
