
Tehran: The Sultanate of Oman participated on Tuesday as a guest of honour in the 4th meeting of Interior Ministers of the member states of the Economic Cooperation Organisation (ECO).
The meeting was inaugurated in Tehran by President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The Sultanate of Oman’s delegation to the meeting was headed by Sayyid Hamoud Faisal Al Busaidi, Minister of Interior.
The Minister of Interior expressed the Sultanate of Oman’s appreciation to the Islamic Republic of Iran for its invitation to attend as a guest of honour at the fourth meeting of Interior Ministers of ECO member states.
This, said the minister, reflects the depth of the advanced relations between the two countries and the bonds of mutual respect and constructive cooperation in various fields.
He emphasised the importance of enhancing joint cooperation among the Interior Ministers of the Organization, particularly in light of the current regional and international challenges.
He pointed out that effective coordination in the various areas under the Organisation’s purview would contribute to consolidating security and stability and achieving sustainable development throughout the region.
The meeting discussed ways to enhance joint security cooperation by addressing current security challenges, the importance of cooperation in the fields of border security, combating drugs and cybercrimes, in addition to exchanging information and expertise between security agencies, and developing joint training programs and capacity building.
Oman’s delegation comprised Maj.Gen. Abdullah Ali Al Harthy, Assistant Inspector General of Police and Customs for Operations and Sheikh Ahmed Hashil Al Maskari, Head of the Gulf Cooperation Council and Regional Neighbourhood Department at the Foreign Ministry.
The fourth meeting of Interior Ministers of ECO member states serves as an important regional platform aimed at enhancing cooperation and coordination in security fields among member states, discussing common challenges, and exchanging expertise and best practices in managing internal affairs, thereby contributing to maintaining security and stability in the region.
