MUSCAT: Oman’s junior hockey players are set for a historic milestone, earning their first-ever appearance at the FIH Men’s Junior Hockey World Cup 2025 in India. The team has been drafted in as a replacement for Pakistan, who have withdrawn from the tournament.
The International Hockey Federation (FIH) confirmed Oman’s inclusion on Wednesday, announcing that the Sultanate will compete in the event to be held in Tamil Nadu, India, from November 28 to December 10, 2025.
In a statement, the Oman Hockey Association (OHA) said it was “proud to announce that the Oman junior national team will participate in the FIH Men’s Junior World Cup 2025,” describing the opportunity as a “historic qualification” and “a remarkable milestone in the nation’s sporting journey.”
Oman was invited as the next highest-placed team from the Junior Asia Cup 2024, following Pakistan’s withdrawal. The national squad, coached by Mohammed Hobeis, will now join the 24 teams competing at this prestigious global event.
This year’s edition will also be groundbreaking for world hockey, as both the men’s and women’s FIH Junior World Cups will, for the first time, feature 24 participating nations each—a reflection of the FIH’s Empowerment and Engagement Strategy, aimed at promoting greater inclusivity and accessibility in the sport.
The OHA extended its gratitude to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, the Oman Olympic Committee, and all partners and sponsors for their continued support in developing hockey across the Sultanate.
OHA added that Oman’s participation “represents a major step forward in the nation’s hockey development pathway and offers a valuable opportunity for the next generation of Omani players to compete at the highest international level.”
