The idea for the Grand Egyptian Museum began in the 1990s, with the foundation stone laid for the project in 2002 at a prime location overlooking the Giza Pyramids. The design concept was inspired by the extension of sunrays emanating from the peaks of the three pyramids, converging at the museum's main structure.
The museum stands as an integrated global cultural and civilizational landmark, housing thousands of rare artifacts, most notably the complete collection of King Tutankhamun's treasures displayed together for the first time, alongside the collection of Queen Hetepheres and the Khufu Solar Ships, in addition to possessions spanning from the pre-dynastic period to the Greek and Roman eras.
HH Sayyid Theyazin was accompanied during the inauguration by an official delegation comprising Salim bin Mohammed Al Mahrouqi, Minister of Heritage and Tourism, Sayyid Said bin Sultan Al Busaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth for Culture, Jamal bin Hassan Al Moosawi, Secretary-General of the National Museum and Abdullah bin Nasser Al Rahbi, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to the Arab Republic of Egypt and its Permanent Representative to the Arab League.
