Ministry of Education, UNICEF implement programme to develop student capabilities

Muscat: The Ministry of Education, in cooperation with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in the Sultanate of Oman, implemented the programme "Training of Trainers in Positive Parenting: Promoting Inclusive and Safe Learning Environments." The five-day programme is part of the joint efforts aimed at enhancing child well-being in the school environment.

The programme aims to empower social workers, psychologists, and educational supervisors to acquire practical skills and specialized knowledge in the areas of positive parenting and constructive communication with parents. This contributes to promoting positive behaviors among students, raising their academic achievement, and developing their psychological and social capacities in safe and inclusive learning environments.

The programme involves a number of specialists who receive interactive training on multiple themes, including: positive parenting, child rights and protection, inclusive education for children with disabilities, psycho-social support, nutrition, bullying prevention, and strategies for effective communication with families.

The training sessions focus on providing participants with scientific tools and modern techniques that enable them to support parents in building family environments that stimulate learning and foster emotional growth and positive behavioral development in children.

Samira Chaudhary, UNICEF Representative to the Sultanate of Oman, emphasised that positive parenting is the cornerstone of children's growth and well-being. She noted that strengthening the capacities of educators and frontline workers to communicate with parents helps empower families to build children's self-confidence, enhance their mental health, and establish their love for learning.

Fadhil Humaid Al Hadrami, Director of the Guidance and Awareness Department at the Ministry of Education, said that the partnership between the school and the family is essential for building a student's personality and developing their abilities.

He pointed out that the programme contributes to qualifying social workers and psychologists to lead positive change in schools and enables parents to adopt educational methods based on respect, communication, and mutual support, which positively reflects on the quality of education and the well-being of students.

He added that the implementation of the programme comes within the framework of continuous cooperation with UNICEF, expressing his gratitude to the organization for its efforts in supporting child protection and student guidance programs in the Sultanate of Oman.

The programme's implementation is intended to promote positive values and the authentic Omani character based on social solidarity, consistent with the UNICEF Country Programme in the Sultanate of Oman (2022–2025), which aligns with Oman Vision 2040 that places human development at the core of its priorities.
