Oman fencers lead medal charge at Riyadh 2025

MUSCAT: Omani athletes concluded a memorable campaign at the sixth Islamic Solidarity Games (ISG) in Riyadh, bringing home two gold, two silver, and five bronze medals across fencing, athletics, and weightlifting.

The spotlight shone brightest on Oman’s fencers, who dominated the medal table for the nation.

On November 19, the women’s foil team—Salma Al Dughaishi, Ghzal Al Fulaiti, and Israa Al Siyabi—stormed to gold with a 45-28 win over Bahrain.

Israa had earlier claimed bronze in the individual foil, cementing her status as one of Oman’s top fencing stars.

Oman’s men’s fencing team—Saeed Al Shuaibi, Ahmed Al Keskes, Ali Al Harthi, and Ali Al Busaidi—added two bronze medals, one in the men’s epee team event and another in the foil team event, rounding out a remarkable fencing performance.

Earlier at the Games, Oman’s sprint sensation Ali Anwar Al Balushi captured gold in the men’s 100m, while the men’s 4x100m relay team—Rashid Al Aasmi, Malham Al Balushi, Mohamed Al Sadi, and Ali Anwar Al Balushi—secured silver, and high jumper Fatek Abdul Ghafoor Bait Jaboob claimed bronze.

Overall, Oman finished 21st in the medal table among 57 countries, with Turkiye topping the Games with 72 golds, 44 silvers, and 39 bronzes.

Abdullah Bamakhalef, secretary general of the Oman Olympic Committee (OOC), congratulated the athletes, and said, “Omani athletes have delivered outstanding performances on the international stage. Their dedication brings pride to the nation, and we look forward to continued success in the future.”

With fencing leading the charge, Oman’s athletes ended Riyadh 2025 on a high note, showcasing talent, teamwork, and determination.
