Consulate office of South Africa officially inaugurated in Muscat

Muscat: In a significant step towards boosting diplomatic and economic relations between the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of South Africa, the honorary consulate office of South Africa was officially inaugurated in Muscat.

The opening ceremony took place at the new consulate premises in Shatti Al Qurum under the patronage of Khalid bin Hashel Al-Muslahi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Administrative and Financial Affairs, and in the presence of Lujaina bint Mohsin Al-Zuabi, Honorary Consul of South Africa in Oman, and Mgoobo David Magabe, Ambassador of South Africa to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and non-resident Ambassador to Oman.

The event was also attended by several accredited ambassadors to Oman, prominent South African figures, members of the diplomatic corps, and distinguished representatives from the business community.

The opening of this new consulate marks an important milestone in enhancing bilateral cooperation, promoting trade and investment, and strengthening ties between the peoples of both nations.

In his speech on the occasion, Khalid bin Hashel Al-Muslahi praised the growing partnership between Oman and South Africa, reaffirming the mutual commitment to deepening diplomatic, cultural, and economic relations.

Lujaina bint Mohsin Al-Zuabi expressed her pride and gratitude for the opportunity to represent South Africa in Oman, considering the opening of the consulate a vital step in strengthening ties between the two countries. The newly appointed Honorary Consul highlighted the long-standing commitment of Oman and South Africa to cooperation, cultural understanding, and shared progress.

 The consulate aims to foster closer relations in trade, tourism, education, and culture, serving as a gateway for citizens of both nations. She expressed appreciation to the South African government and Omani leadership for their continued support, concluding her speech with a pledge to work with dedication and unity toward a brighter future for both countries.

For his part, Mgoobo David Magabe emphasised that the official opening of the Honorary Consulate in Muscat enhances diplomatic, economic, and cultural relations between South Africa and Oman, and strengthens people-to-people ties.

The inauguration ceremony also included the launch of the official website of the Honorary Consulate of South Africa in Muscat, along with the introduction of its social media pages to engage with the public.

The new consulate will serve as a primary contact point for visa services for those wishing to travel to South Africa, whether citizens or residents. It will also provide support to South African nationals in Oman and facilitate collaboration between businesses and institutions in both countries.

The consulate will operate from Sunday to Thursday, from 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM, at its location in Shatti Al Qurum, Street No. 3017, Muscat.

South Africa and Oman enjoy a long-standing relationship based on mutual respect and cooperation. Over the years, both countries have explored opportunities in trade, energy, mining, tourism, and education.
