
Ibri: A memorandum of cooperation (MoC) was signed on Thursday in the Wilayat of Ibri between Ibri Healthy City and the World Health Organization (WHO).
This is part of national efforts aimed at strengthening partnerships that support the Healthy Cities programs, contributing to achieving sustainable development and raising the level of health awareness in the community.
Sheikh Dr. Said bin Humaid Al Harthy, Wali of Ibri and chief guest of the event, delivered a speech, clarifying that the signing of the cooperation memorandum represents an important milestone in the journey of the Healthy Cities program in the Wilayat. He pointed out that the initiative aligns with the goals of Oman Vision 2040 in the areas of health, well-being, and community development. He affirmed that the declaration of Ibri as a Healthy City reflects the commitment of various institutions in the Wilayat to enhancing the quality of life and building a sustainable urban environment that contributes to improving health services and practices.
He added that the Wilayat of Ibri possesses human, geographical, and urban resources that qualify it for joining the global network of Healthy Cities. He stressed the importance of integrated efforts among government, private, and civil society sectors to ensure the sustainability of this program and the achievement of its objectives.
For his part, Dr. Jean Jabbour, WHO Representative, delivered a speech in which he affirmed that the joining of the Wilayat of Ibri to the Healthy Cities network confirms the Sultanate of Oman's commitment to promoting sustainable development. He noted that the Wilayat possesses the resources that qualify it to be a model for community initiatives supporting public health, indicating that the WHO Office in the Sultanate of Oman will continue to provide technical support and exchange expertise to contribute to expanding the program's scope and achieving its shared vision towards "Health for All".
Dr. Ahmed bin Said Al Kalbani, Director General of Health Services in A’Dhahirah Governorate, also delivered a speech, affirming that the project represents a pioneering national step that reflects the strength of the partnership between state institutions and the community. He explained that the Healthy Cities program constitutes an effective platform for promoting the quality of life and supporting community initiatives.
The signing ceremony included a visual presentation on the concept of Healthy Cities, in addition to the signing of a number of partnership agreements with supporting institutions, including Daleel Petroleum and Aster Hospital – Ibri branch.
The signing of the cooperation memorandum embodies an advanced stage of joint work between national and international bodies, and reinforces the direction towards building a supportive community environment for healthy lifestyles and achieving a sustainable quality of life for the people of the Wilayat of Ibri.
