Omani Labour Ministry intervenes in Ooredoo layoff case

Muscat: The Ministry of Labour in Oman has issued an official statement addressing recent concerns over the termination of 125 employees by the Omani-Qatari Telecommunications Company (Ooredoo). The ministry confirmed that it has been actively involved in investigating the matter in coordination with the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority.

According to the ministry, Ooredoo offered affected employees a severance package equivalent to 24 months’ salary in exchange for their resignation. Of the 125 employees, 114 accepted the offer, while 11 declined, representing approximately 9% of the total.

In response to the situation, the ministry summoned representatives from Ooredoo’s management, the company’s labour union, and the General Federation of Oman Workers to engage in negotiations aimed at reaching a mutually agreeable resolution.

The Ministry of Labour reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the stability and rights of Omani citizens working in the private sector, emphasizing its ongoing efforts to monitor and support employment conditions across the country.
