Two European tourists held for OMR1mn jewellery theft in Oman

Muscat; Two tourists of European nationalities were arrested for the theft of jewellery worth approximately OMR1 million from a store in the Muscat Governorate.

The Muscat Governorate Police Command carried out the operation, in cooperation with the Directorate General of Inquiries and Criminal Investigation and Research.

The two suspects had come to the Sultanate of Oman on a tourist visa and stayed in a hotel near the jewellery shop in Al-Ghubra area to explore the area and plan the theft.

At four in the morning, they broke the back wall of the store using a mechanical tool, looted the ornaments after opening the safe, and also stole the money.

The search and investigation efforts resulted in the arrest of the accused, the tools used, and the recovery of the consignment that they had hidden on the beach of the Sifah area after transporting it on a boat that was rented under the pretext of going on a sea trip.
