Muscat: The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has issued an official weather alert warning of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms in Musandam Governorate.
According to the CAA’s National Multi-Hazard Early Warning Centre, rainfall amounts are likely to range between 20 to 60 mm, accompanied by strong downdraft winds reaching speeds of 28 to 64 km/h (15–35 knots).
These conditions are likely to trigger flash floods in valleys and low-lying areas.
The warning also highlights:
- Rising sea waves between 1.5 to 2.0 metres along Musandam’s coast and the Sea of Oman.
- Reduced visibility during rainfall events.
- Continued scattered thunderstorms over Al Buraimi, North and South Al Batinah, and parts of the Hajar Mountains, which may also lead to runoff in streams and valleys.
The CAA urges the public to exercise caution, avoid crossing valleys, stay away from low-lying areas, and refrain from sea activities during the alert period.
