
Muscat: The Foreign Ministry on Monday commemorated the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations (UN).
The ceremony was held in the presence of António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations and Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Foreign Minister.
The event reaffirms the Sultanate of Oman’s unwavering commitment to the principles enshrined in the UN Charter and its steadfast support for the Organisation’s vital role in advancing international peace and security, upholding the rules of international law, and fostering multilateral cooperation to tackle common global challenges.
Sheikh Khalifa bin Ali Al Harthy, the Undersecretary of the Foreign Ministry for Political Affairs, delivered an address. He highlighted the esteemed position and central role of the United Nations within the global order and underscored the critical importance of collective action and international coordination in resolving political, humanitarian and developmental issues.
He also articulated Oman’s consistent foreign policy approach, grounded in dialogue, diplomacy, respect for state sovereignty, and the promotion of mutual understanding among nations.
The ceremony was hosted at the Ministry’s headquarters. Attendees included HH Assistant to the Vice Chancellor of Sultan Qaboos University for International Cooperation; undersecretaries; the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps; representatives of United Nations offices accredited to the Sultanate of Oman; and officials from the Foreign Ministry.
