Sayyid Badr receives Director-General of ILO

Muscat: Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Foreign Minister, received on Tuesday Gilbert Houngbo, Director-General of the International Labour Organisation (ILO), at the headquarters of the Foreign Ministry.

During the meeting, mutual emphasis was placed on the cooperation relations between the Sultanate of Oman and the international organisation and the continuation of work programmes and constructive consultation between the two sides.

The Foreign Minister expressed the appreciation of the Government of the Sultanate of Oman for the pivotal role of the ILO in assisting member states to develop their labor systems in line with the best international practices and standards. He highlighted Oman's interest in its positive and beneficial relations in this context and the tangible role of the Director-General in developing relevant frameworks and concepts.

For his part, the Director-General commended the development and achievements realised by the Sultanate of Oman in the field of labor policies, labor market development, and the relationship between the parties of production.

He expressed the ILO's commitment to continuing constructive cooperation and positive partnership with the Sultanate of Oman in various related aspects and areas of mutual interest, especially in the areas of skills development and capacity building, and supporting training and employment programmes, consistent with national development priorities and the goals of Oman Vision 2040.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed prospects for cooperation and ways to maximize benefit from the Organisation and its specialised programmes aimed at continuing the development of labor legislation, and enhancing labor market efficiency and institutional capabilities.

The meeting was attended by Khalid bin Salim Al Ghamari, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Labour for Labour Affairs, Dr. Ruba Jaradat, Regional Director for Arab States at the ILO, and a number of officials from both sides.
