Muscat: In a significant move to bolster its position as a premier destination for adventure tourism, Oman’s Ministry of Heritage and Tourism has unveiled a series of official guidebooks and certified mountain trail maps. The launch event was held under the patronage of His Excellency Azzan bin Qassim Al Busaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry for Tourism.
The newly released materials are designed to serve as comprehensive references for adventure tourism operators and enthusiasts. They aim to enhance safety awareness, promote effective risk management practices, and ensure that adventure activities are conducted in accordance with approved safety standards while preserving the thrill and challenge that define the adventure tourism experience.
Oman’s diverse and unique natural landscapes, from rugged mountains to expansive deserts and pristine coastlines, have positioned the Sultanate as a leading hub for adventure seekers from both within the country and abroad. Activities such as hiking, rock climbing, canyoning, and mountain biking are increasingly popular, supported by specialized operators adhering to professional and regulatory frameworks.
The Ministry emphasized that the implementation of these guidelines is part of a broader strategy to ensure the safety of participants and staff, while reinforcing Oman’s reputation as a safe, sustainable, and high-quality adventure tourism destination. Operators are now required to adopt robust safety management systems and comply with the newly issued guidelines.
