OHRC organises child rights awareness programme

Sohar: Oman Human Rights Commission (OHRC), in cooperation with the “Children First” Association and the Office of the Governor of North Al Batinah, organised the final stop of the child rights awareness programme titled “Values and Belonging” on Tuesday in the Wilayat of Sohar.

The ceremony was held under the auspices of HH Sayyida Dr. Mona Fahd Al Said, Chairperson of the Children First Association.

In her keynote address, she emphasised that the programme reflects the shared vision of both the Association and the Commission to develop childhood, consolidate authentic Omani national values, and provide necessary protection for children amidst global and social shifts that impact the behavior of the youth.

She noted that this conclusion crowns a journey that spanned the entirety of 2025.

The program’s impact included implementation across 16 Wilayats in 8 Governorates and approximately 2,000 direct beneficiaries from various segments of society.

The program aimed to create a qualitative shift in understanding child rights through educational axes connected to a child’s school, family, and community life.

Professor Dr. Rashid Hamad Al Balushi, Chairman of the Oman Human Rights Commission, stated that child protection is a shared responsibility across all sectors. He highlighted the Commission’s role in providing legal consultations and receiving reports regarding violations of child rights.

The program extended its reach beyond students to include teachers, social workers, and parents. It equipped them with skills for “Positive Parenting” and efficient intervention methods. Implementation featured interactive sessions, workshops, and visual presentations addressing modern challenges such as bullying and its countermeasures.

The closing ceremony included working papers on the OHRC’s efforts in monitoring national child rights strategies and the ongoing programs of the Children First Association dedicated to the development and protection of children in Oman.

The event was attended by Mohammed Suleiman Al Kindi, Governor of North Al Batinah.
