A sneak peek into Omani Crepe restaurant

NAME: Adel Abdul Baqi Al Lawati
HOMETOWN: Muscat
COMPANY NAME: Omani Crepe
BUSINESS TYPE: Food Corner
YEAR STARTED: 2015
CLAIM TO FAME: Traditional Omani crepe anytime you want it
NUMBER OF EMPLOYEES: 3
INSPIRATION: To bring Omani original crepe everywhere in the world.

1) What inspired you to start your business?
My mother. She used to make this sort of crepe in our village. All our neighbours, and friends would request her to prepare crepes for them. I checked the market and I found that there was no place that offered the original Omani crepe. That’s why I went ahead and started Omani Crepe food corner.

2) How do you describe your business to your best friends?
We do the crepe by following the Omani recipe, not the French way or from any other parts of the world. We are different and unique.

3) What’s your favourite product that you sell?
The Nutella crepe. It is simply delicious.

4) What was your greatest challenge when you first got started?
The information provided for registration and the license was a bit confusing. If there had been a manual on the procedure and the documents it would have been easier.

5) What’s your biggest challenge now that you are up and running?
The most complicated thing now is marketing. Marketing is needed and until now we focused only on social media and invited well-known people to come and try our crepes. Social media is affordable to start with but now we will move to the next step. We are planning to advertise in the media too.

6) What do you personally see is your greatest success so far?
I designed the logo myself and I like it a lot, even the fort decoration of the restaurant and the packaging, I designed it all and I am very satisfied with it.

7) What is your dream for your company?
To see Omani Crepe outlets all around Europe, first we will open more outlets in Oman, not just in Muscat but also in Salalah and then Dubai. Later will move to Europe.

8) What do you hope to see on the development of your industry in Oman?
It is growing a lot and very fast. A lot of new malls are opening which need more restaurants and cafes. When Starbucks started it was only a coffee stand and look now. This will happen to Omani businesses too.

9) If you could give a piece of advice to someone thinking about starting a business here in Oman, what would it be?
If you want to be the first in a certain business, you have to be the first to open it. I was the first to offer real Omani crepe, that’s why I am in the first position. Then, people will copy you but they will already be behind.

10) If you could invite any person in the world to try your Omani crepe, who would you invite?
My mother. She is the one who told me all about the Omani crepe.- [email protected]
