Muscat: The Indian School Darsait has regretted the incident during which some students were served stale "packed food" during the school picnic (classes III to V) at Rusayl Park on 13th January 2026.
The matter came up after some parents complained to the school authorities regarding the health of their children.
In a statement, the school authorities said: “We deeply regret the unpleasant experience faced by your child. An immediate preliminary investigation was conducted. Our findings indicate that the food was prepared, packed in the early hours, and transported to the venue by the vendor. Due to lapses during handling and transportation, the quality of the food was compromised in certain instances. This is a serious violation of safety expectations. In response, immediate and decisive action has been taken. A formal explanation has been sought from the vendor, who has been permanently blacklisted and will not be engaged for any future school events.”
The statement further added, “Stringent action, including legal action if warranted, will be initiated against the vendor in accordance with contractual obligations and applicable legal provisions. To prevent any recurrence, the following stringent measures are being implemented with immediate effect: (a) All food supplied for school events will be subjected to mandatory inspection and tasting prior to distribution. (b) A designated staff committee will be constituted to oversee food quality, hygiene, storage, and safety compliance.”
“We wish to assure you that any compromise on student safety and hygiene is treated with utmost seriousness and will not be tolerated. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience and concern this incident has caused. The wellbeing of our students remains our highest priority. Thank you for your continued trust and support,” the statement added.
