Citizen-expat duo arrested for stealing and selling hired car parts in Muscat

Muscat: The Directorate General of Inquiries and Criminal Investigations has successfully dismantled a theft ring operating within the Muscat Governorate. Two individuals have been arrested following a series of thefts targeting vehicle components—specifically catalytic converters—from car rental agencies.

The primary suspect, an Omani citizen, was apprehended after an investigation revealed he had been renting vehicles from various shops across Muscat with the intent to strip them of valuable parts. He specifically targeted catalytic converters, which are highly sought after for the precious metals they contain.

The investigation also led to the arrest of an Asian expatriate who acted as an accomplice. Authorities confirmed that the expatriate was responsible for dismantling the stolen components and facilitating their sale on the black market.

The Royal Oman Police (ROP) has confirmed that both suspects are in custody. Formal legal proceedings are currently being completed before the case is referred to the Public Prosecution for further judicial action.
