Muscat: The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources has successfully completed the construction and operation of the artificial rainmaking station in the Musandam Governorate, specifically in the Wilayat of Khasab.
This project is part of the Ministry's ongoing efforts to enhance rainfall, develop groundwater resources, and support water sustainability goals in the Sultanate of Oman.
The station's impact area extends to the northwest and south, reaching a distance of up to 70 kilometers, based on geographical data and prevailing weather conditions. This will contribute to increasing cloud formation and rainfall in the targeted areas.
This project is part of the artificial rainmaking system, which utilises ion technology to enhance cloud condensation and increase the likelihood of precipitation. This station is the 14th in the network of stations operating across the Sultanate of Oman.
The network includes 11 stations distributed across the Eastern and Western Hajar Mountains, one station in the Musandam Governorate, and two stations in the mountains of the Dhofar Governorate, thus strengthening the geographical and operational integration of the national rainmaking system.
This project embodies the Ministry's commitment to adopting modern technologies and innovation in water resource management, thereby supporting water security and enhancing the ecosystem's ability to adapt to climate change. The project also contributes to achieving sustainable development.
The Ministry continues to study new sites with suitable climatic and topographical conditions, ensuring that their impact does not overlap with existing stations, thus guaranteeing maximum operational efficiency and optimal project distribution.
