Three US service members were killed and several others injured as part of the joint US-Israeli strikes on Iran, the US Central Command said in a statement.
Several others sustained "minor shrapnel injuries."
The statement does not provide details on how and when the troops lost their lives or sustained injuries. This is the first time US casualties are being announced since the start of the US' operation in Iran.
Iran's response to the US-Israeli strikes included attacks on US bases across the Middle East.
US army strikes, sinks Iranian vessel
The US struck an Iranian vessel in the early stages of the joint US-Israeli strikes on Iran, the US military said. "The ship is currently sinking to the bottom of the Gulf of Oman," US Central Command (CentCom) posted on its official X account. The claim could not be independently verified.
Iran's targeting of USS Lincoln unsuccessful — US military
After Iranian media reported four missiles were launched towards aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, the US Central Command said Iran's targeting of the vessel was unsuccessful.
"The missiles launched didn't even come close," the US Central Command said on its X account, adding the ship continues its operation "to defend the American people by eliminating threats from the Iranian regime."
