Muscat-bound passengers stuck as flights cancelled

MUSCAT: Thousands of Muscat bound passengers were stranded all over the globe as more and more flights got cancelled on Sunday.

Several Oman Air flights scheduled for Sunday, 1 March, and Monday, 2 March, have been cancelled due to ongoing regional airspace closures, the airline announced.

Flights to and from Amman (AMM), Dubai (DXB), Bahrain (BAH), Doha (DOH), Dammam (DMM) and Kuwait (KWI) due to depart on the two days have been cancelled.

In addition, flights to and from Moscow scheduled to depart on Sunday, 1 March, have also been cancelled.

The airline confirmed that all other flights are operating as scheduled, though passengers may experience some delays.

“The safety of our guests and crew remains our highest priority. We are closely monitoring the situation in coordination with the appropriate authorities and will continue to share updates here and on our website,” the airline said in a statement.

Passengers are advised to check the airline’s website for the latest updates before travelling. The airline expressed regret for the inconvenience caused and thanked passengers for their understanding and cooperation during this time.

Oman’s low-cost carrier SalamAir said on Sunday that its overall flight operations have returned to normal, while services to and from several regional destinations remain temporarily suspended due to ongoing developments in the region.

In a travel advisory issued to passengers, the airline said it was “pleased to inform” customers that flight operations across its network had resumed as scheduled.

However, SalamAir confirmed that flights to and from Iran, Iraq, Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates, Doha in Qatar, Dammam in Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait remain suspended until further notice.

India’s flag carrier Air India said it is extending full flexibility for passengers whose travel to or from the Middle East is impacted.

“As part of our commitment to your safety and convenience, Air India is extending full flexibility if your travel to/from the Middle East is impacted due to the ongoing situation,” the airline said.

For bookings made on or before February 28, with travel originally planned up to March 5, passengers can reschedule their flight at no additional charge or request a full refund to their original form of payment.

Air India Express said it has extended the suspension of flights to and from Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates until 11.29 pm IST on March 2.

“Impacted guests are being notified directly through their registered contact details,” an Air India Express spokesperson said.

The airline is offering passengers who had booked travel to or from the Gulf region up to 28 February 2026, for journeys scheduled until 5 March 2026, the option to reschedule without any date change fees or cancel for a full refund.

Low cost carrier of India, IndiGo said it continues to take “measured and responsible decisions across select international sectors” and acknowledged that developments in Middle Eastern airspace may prompt questions about travel plans.

“Please rest assured that our approach remains calm, considered, and guided solely by the wellbeing of our customers and crew,” the airline said, adding that affected passengers can explore alternate travel options or claim a refund.
