Panel discussion held on reviving Arab music

Muscat: The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, in collaboration with Sultan Qaboos University (SQU), organized a specialized panel discussion titled "Reviving Arab Music: The Role of the Arab Music Academy," held at the College of Arts and Social Sciences, with the participation of a select group of academics, experts, and practitioners in the field of music.

This session is part of the Ministry's ongoing efforts to strengthen the status of the arts as an authentic component of national identity and an effective tool for building cultural awareness.

It sought to facilitate an in-depth discussion on the current state and future of Arab music in light of the rapid transformations brought about by globalization and modern technologies, along with the accompanying changes in patterns of reception and artistic production.

Participants addressed a number of fundamental issues related to Arab music, most notably the challenges of documentation, the declining presence of classical forms in the contemporary scene, and the rise of modern musical styles.

They emphasized the importance of redefining the relationship between authenticity and renewal, moving from a preservation-based approach to one of revival grounded in innovation and measured development.
