Iran–U.S. talks end without agreement as ceasefire extension urged

Tehran: Talks between Iran and the United States concluded in Islamabad without reaching an agreement, according to multiple media reports, amid continued deadlock over key conditions related to Iran’s nuclear program.

Iranian outlets, including Tasnim News Agency and Fars News Agency, reported that negotiations stalled after both sides failed to bridge differences on core issues. Chief among them was the U.S. demand for firm assurances that Iran would not pursue nuclear weapons.

A statement attributed to the U.S. Vice President indicated that Washington does not believe Tehran is currently prepared to meet those conditions, signaling a persistent gap between the two sides.

Meanwhile, Pakistani media sources said that Pakistan had called on both parties to extend an existing ceasefire, reflecting concerns over potential escalation if diplomatic efforts collapse.

Fars News Agency, citing an unnamed Iranian source, claimed that the U.S. delegation may have been seeking justification to withdraw from the negotiations. However, there has been no independent confirmation of that assertion.

The U.S. delegation has since departed Pakistan, marking the end of the latest round of talks without a breakthrough.

The outcome underscores ongoing tensions between Washington and Tehran, with topics such as nuclear commitments, verification measures, and broader regional security concerns still unresolved.
