Gulf United Fish Products Factory inaugurated in Mahout

Mahout: The Gulf United Fish Products Factory was inaugurated on Thursday in the Wilayat of Mahout, Al Wusta Governorate, under the patronage of Dr. Saud Hamoud Al Habsi, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources.

The factory specialises in the production of fishmeal, fish oil, and soluble fish paste, along with a range of value-added secondary marine products. These are utilised in aquaculture, agriculture, and animal feed production, in compliance with the highest standards of quality, safety, and sustainability.

The current phase of the project has attracted investments amounting to approximately OMR6.2 million, in addition to working capital of nearly OMR4 million. The facility is the first fully automated, integrated plant in the Sultanate of Oman, constructed using stainless steel throughout.

The factory represents a qualitative addition to Oman's food security system by supporting the production of essential inputs for the aquaculture and animal feed sectors. This contributes to reducing reliance on imports and enhancing self-sufficiency, while also increasing the economic value of marine resources by converting fish catch into higher-yield industrial products.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources plays a role in supporting such projects by regulating the sector, facilitating investment procedures, providing a conducive environment for the growth of fisheries-related industries, and promoting the sustainable management of marine resources in line with food security and economic development objectives.

The company affirmed that the factory's inauguration marks the beginning of an expansion phase that includes future investments estimated at OMR75 million. These will be allocated to the construction of a seafood processing plant, an integrated, scientifically based shrimp farming project, and a multi-model agricultural project centered on the Paulownia tree, all aimed at enhancing integration and achieving sustainable added value.
