Muscat: The Sultanate has abundant natural potentials that offers an attractive atmosphere for local and foreign tourists.
Many wilayats are known for their cultural attractions, such as castles, forts and towers. Al Jabal Al Akhdhar, more than 3,000 metres above sea level, in the Wilayat of Nizwa in Governorate of Al Dakhiliyah, is one of the key tourist destinations. It is known for its moderate weather during the summer and cool weather during winter. It is also known for agricultural products, which include fruits, flowers, pomegranate, apricot, beach, plum and walnut.
Jabal Shams, about 3,500 metres above sea level, in the Wilayat of Al Hamra in Governorate of Al Dakhiliyah is another tourist attraction. It has unique temperature ranging between 0 in winter and 25°C to 35°C in summer.
The Sultanate also enjoys many fresh water spas, such as Ain Al Kasfa in the Wilayat of Al Rustaq in Governorate of South Al Batinah. The water temperature at this spa, which reaches up to 45°C, is ideal for treatment of rheumatism and dermal diseases.
Ain Al Thuwarah is one of the famous spas in the Wilayat of Nakhl in Governorate of South Al Batinah. The water, which originates from Sald Mountain, flows from the wadi up to 300 metres.
Wadi Bani Khalid, about 200 km from Muscat, is one of the main wadis in the Governorate of North Al Sharqiyah it runs throughout the year.
Wadi Shab in Tiwi in the Wilayat of Sur in Governorate of South Al Sharqiyah, about 76 km from the Wilayat of Qurayat in Governorate of Muscat, is a famous tourist destination especially in summer.
Wadi Al Hoqain, about 150 km from the Governorate of Muscat, is one of the beautiful wadis in the Wilayat of Al Rustaq which runs throughout the year.
Wadi Daiqah Dam in the Wilayat of Qurayat is also one of the key tourist attractions.
Governorate of Dhofar is a key attraction for tourists from the Sultanate, the Gulf and Arab, as well as other countries especially from June to September each year. During khareef “monsoon season”, the mountains are covered with greenery. Salalah Tourism Festival, held from July 15 to August 31, is also a key tourist attraction.
Dhofar, which is known for many plants, such as coconut and banana, has about 360 spas on the mountainous strip, the most famous of which are Razat, Tabraq, Athom, Sahalnout, Jarziz and Hamran.
