MUSCAT: The Indian Embassy in Oman said it is closely monitoring an incident involving a vessel off Shinas Port in northern Oman and is coordinating with local authorities as efforts continue to ensure the safety of the crew.
In a statement posted on social media on Thursday, the embassy said it had learned of an incident involving a vessel off Shinas Port earlier in the day and was seeking further details in coordination with Omani authorities.
In a subsequent update, the embassy confirmed that the evacuation of crew members from the vessel, identified as MT Jalveer, was underway.
“Evacuation of crew from MT Jalveer to Shinas Port is being coordinated with assistance from the Royal Navy of Oman, and shall soon be completed,” the embassy said.
No casualties or injuries have been reported so far, and authorities have not yet disclosed the nature of the incident.
The Indian mission said it remains in close contact with the relevant Omani authorities and is monitoring developments. Further information is expected as the evacuation operation is completed.
The assistance provided by the Royal Navy of Oman has been crucial in facilitating the safe transfer of the crew to shore. Officials have not yet released details regarding the number of crew members on board or the condition of the vessel.
