Muscat: Sultan Haitham City, represented by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning, has floated two tenders for the construction of a Government School Complex and a Cultural and Social Centre. These tenders are floated in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, as part of ongoing efforts to develop educational, cultural, and community facilities that support the city’s quality of life.
The Government School Complex is located in Al Wafa District. It stands as one of the city’s vital projects aimed at providing a modern, multi-use educational environment. The complex includes a boys’ school for the second and third cycles, a girls’ school for the second and third cycles, in addition to a mixed school for the first cycle, along with a multi-storey vehicle parking building.
The project has been designed according to an integrated community concept that allows its facilities to be used beyond school hours. Dedicated spaces include innovation labs, workshops, multi-purpose halls, and community activity facilities, thereby reinforcing its role as a centre for learning and social interaction.
The project features advanced urban and climate-responsive solutions that respect the local environment. Key highlights include a central green pedestrian corridor connecting the schools to adjacent facilities, the provision of green spaces and open gardens, and natural cooling systems that improve thermal comfort and enhance the quality of the urban environment.
The project also adopts environmental sustainability principles by integrating green roofs, solar panels, and open learning gardens. These elements contribute to improved energy efficiency and greater utilization of renewable energy sources within the school campus.
On the mobility front, the project offers a safe pedestrian environment through the complete separation of vehicle traffic from student pathways. Independent bus routes and a secure internal movement network connect the various facilities within the complex.
In the same context, the City has launched a tender for the construction of the Cultural and Social Centre in District No. 9, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth. This centre is designed to become one of the primary community and cultural landmarks within Sultan Haitham City.
The project benefits from its location within an urban area planned to accommodate approximately 100,000 residents, thereby reinforcing its role as a key destination for cultural activities, social events, and community interaction, capable of hosting various programmes and events throughout the year.
The centre consists of interconnected facilities and buildings arranged around an open central square, ensuring ease of movement and connectivity between different spaces. Its peak-time visitor capacity ranges between 1,200 and 1,500 guests.
The project adheres to the highest environmental sustainability standards through climate-responsive design, the use of central cooling systems, smart energy and water management solutions, and locally sourced, low-carbon building materials. These features support the City’s broader sustainable urban development objectives.
The centre also offers a flexible operational model that accommodates diverse cultural, educational, and community uses. It enhances opportunities for public-private partnerships, cementing its role as a platform for community engagement and cultural innovation within Sultan Haitham City.
These projects are part of a comprehensive system of educational, cultural, and community facilities that Sultan Haitham City is actively developing. The goal is to build an integrated urban environment that combines quality of life, sustainability and innovation, while strengthening the city’s position as a leading future urban destination in the Sultanate of Oman.
