Al Wahaibi aims to consolidate lead at Italian Baja

MUSCAT: Oman's Hamed Al Wahaibi is gearing up to compete in the International Italian Baja, which represents the fourth round of the current FIA World Cup for Cross-Country Bajas season, taking place this weekend.

He enters the event with high aspirations of continuing his strong performance to solidify his lead in the Challenger class standings.

The current season kicked off impressively for Al Wahaibi, the ambassador of Omani motorsport in Baja rallies, as he secured victories in the opening two rounds at the Saudi Baja and Jordan Baja in the Challenger class.

He also claimed valuable points at the Greece Baja despite mechanical issues that prevented him from crossing the finish line in the final stage.

The string of results meant that the Omani driver maintains his lead in the Challenger class standings, alongside climbing to second place in the overall standings of the Baja World Cup.

This will also mark Hamed’s second participation in the Italian Baja, where he secured a valuable victory last year competing in the "SSV" class.

Speaking ahead of the Italian Baja, Al Wahaibi said: "This is my second participation in the Italian Baja following last year's entry, and the goal is to achieve a strong result. Our position in the championship standings is good, but the objective is to maintain a high pace to secure more points and strengthen our advantage at the top of the Challenger class."

He added: "Every round helps me develop further while gaining new experience behind the wheel, which is a positive thing, especially since the competition is very tight this season. However, we have the confidence and the capabilities to continue achieving positive results to keep our title contention alive until the end of the season."
