A new way to travel: UAE train tickets from OMR 5.5

Muscat: Travelling across the UAE by rail is finally becoming a reality, with passengers able to book seats on the country's long-awaited passenger train service from just Dh55 (OMR 5.5).

The first phase of the national passenger rail network will begin operations on June 30, connecting Abu Dhabi and Fujairah in just 1 hour and 45 minutes—significantly reducing travel time compared with the nearly three-hour road journey.

Announced during the inauguration of the Mohamed bin Zayed City Passenger Train Station in Abu Dhabi by His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the introductory service marks the beginning of the UAE's ambitious nationwide passenger rail network.

To celebrate the launch, fares on the Abu Dhabi–Fujairah route start from Dh55 (OMR 5.5) in Comfort Class, while Premium Class tickets begin at Dh120 (OMR 12). Tickets are now available through the official Etihad Rail website and mobile application.

The initial service will operate three daily departures in each direction between Abu Dhabi and Fujairah. Each train can carry up to 400 passengers and offers amenities including free Wi-Fi, power outlets, luggage storage and accessible facilities. Premium Class passengers will also enjoy wider reclining seats and complimentary refreshments.

The passenger rail rollout will continue in phases, with Dubai and Al Dhaid stations scheduled to open on September 30, followed by Al Dhafra on December 30 and Sharjah on March 30, 2027. Once complete, the 900-kilometre network will connect 11 cities and towns across all seven emirates, creating a faster and more sustainable way to travel around the UAE.
