
Muscat: Dhofar Municipality has stepped up food safety inspections across Salalah as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen health oversight, protect consumer health, and ensure food establishments comply with approved health and safety standards ahead of the 2026 Dhofar Khareef season.
The municipality, represented by the Health Affairs Department's Health Control Section, has been conducting extensive field inspection campaigns during both morning and evening hours. The inspections cover a wide range of food-related businesses, including restaurants, kitchens, cafés, evening food outlets, and mishkak stalls, to ensure they meet the highest standards of hygiene and food safety.
According to the municipality, inspection teams carried out 900 field visits over the past month. The campaigns resulted in the detection of 150 health violations, while 60 warnings were issued to establishments that failed to fully comply with health regulations. Authorities also ordered the closure of 25 establishments for serious violations of approved health requirements.
Dhofar Municipality said legal action has been taken against all establishments found to be in violation of health regulations, reaffirming its commitment to enforcing public health laws and ensuring strict compliance with food safety standards.
The municipality urged owners and operators of food establishments to adhere to approved health requirements and preventive measures, emphasizing that compliance plays a vital role in protecting public health, safeguarding consumers, and maintaining confidence in the food service sector.
Officials stressed that the inspection campaigns form part of a broader strategy to enhance preventive health measures and improve the quality of food services offered across the governorate. The municipality added that inspections will continue on a regular basis in coordination with relevant authorities to monitor compliance and address any violations promptly.
With visitor numbers expected to increase significantly during the 2026 Dhofar Khareef season, the municipality said it remains committed to providing a safe food environment for residents and tourists alike, while ensuring that food establishments maintain the highest levels of hygiene, safety, and service quality throughout the season.
