Muscat: The State Council discussed on Tuesday, during the proceedings of its tenth session of the third regular annual sitting of the eighth term, the study submitted regarding “Demographics and Their Impact on the Future of Development in the Sultanate of Oman” and the study on “The Agricultural (Plant) Sector in the Sultanate of Oman: Challenges and Solutions.”
The session was chaired by Sheikh Abdulmalik Abdullah Al Khalili, Chairman of the State Council.
In his speech, the Chairman of the Council stated that the proceedings of the tenth session of the third regular sitting of the eighth term of the Council include discussing the study submitted by the special committees.
He emphasised the role undertaken by the members and the Secretariat General of the Council during the third regular sitting of the eighth term.
The session included a discussion of the study submitted by the special committee on “Demographics and Their Impact on the Future of Development in the Sultanate of Oman,” which aims to highlight and analyse the characteristics and features of the demographics in the Sultanate of Oman.
It also seeks to clarify the impact of demographic shifts on various developmental sectors, in addition to reviewing the policies adopted to achieve population balance and analysing their effectiveness.
The committee clarified that the study aimed to propose a set of solutions and recommendations that would contribute to creating the desired balance in the demographics and preserving the demographic characteristics of the Omani society.
This supports the sustainability of comprehensive development and enhances future planning based on clear scientific foundations.
The session’s proceedings also included a discussion of the study submitted by the special committee regarding “The Agricultural (Plant) Sector in the Sultanate of Oman: Challenges and Solutions,” which examined the economic impact of the agricultural sector on the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), employment, imports, and exports.
The committee indicated that the study addresses the challenges facing the agricultural sector in the Sultanate of Oman, along with reviewing the latest technological developments in the agricultural sector and how to apply them in the Sultanate of Oman.
At the conclusion of its proceedings, the session discussed a number of reports and topics, in addition to reviewing the Secretariat General’s report on the activities of the Council’s bodies during the past period.
