Oman, Turkey explore investment opportunities in urban projects

Ankara: The Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning has concluded an official visit to the Republic of Turkey aimed at expanding cooperation in housing, urban planning and real estate investment, while strengthening private sector participation in the implementation of major urban development projects in the Sultanate of Oman.

The Omani delegation was headed by Dr. Khalfan bin Saeed Al Shuaili, Minister of Housing and Urban Planning, and included representatives from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning, Khazaen Economic City, the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI), and a number of Omani real estate developers.

The visit featured an intensive programme of government meetings, investment discussions and field visits designed to expand economic partnerships, attract high-quality investments and connect Oman's major urban development projects with international expertise. The initiative supports the Sultanate's goals of building sustainable cities and increasing the contribution of the real estate sector to economic growth.

During the visit, the delegation held more than 20 meetings, networking sessions and site visits involving government officials, investors, real estate developers, construction firms, and investment and financing institutions. The programme also included visits to leading urban, residential, tourism and commercial developments across Turkey.

High-level discussions with Turkish government agencies responsible for housing and urban planning, the Real Estate Developers Association and leading companies in real estate, investment and construction focused on Oman's strategic urban development projects, including future cities and integrated residential neighbourhoods.

The meetings highlighted Oman's investment environment, legislative framework and incentives offered to developers, while exploring opportunities for Turkish companies to participate in the implementation of urban projects in the Sultanate. Discussions also covered cooperation in real estate development, project management, advanced construction technologies and digital transformation.

Both sides reviewed a number of investment-related issues, including off-plan property sales, real estate financing, foreign ownership regulations, investment guarantees, registration and classification procedures, local content requirements and talent attraction. These discussions aimed to enhance the investment ecosystem and facilitate sustainable partnerships between Omani and Turkish private sector companies.

The delegation's field visits provided first-hand insight into Turkey's experience in city development, urban regeneration, mixed-use developments, waterfront projects and tourism destinations. The visits enabled the delegation to examine best practices in urban planning, project implementation and community management, supporting knowledge transfer and the application of successful international models in Oman's urban development projects.

Ali bin Mohammed Al Lawati, Chairman of the Real Estate Development Committee at the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said the visit represented a strategic step toward strengthening economic and investment ties between Oman and Turkey. He noted that it opened new avenues for cooperation between private sector companies in both countries and would support the implementation of urban projects through the exchange of expertise.

Al Lawati added that the visit offered valuable exposure to advanced Turkish models in real estate and urban development, emphasizing that Turkey's experience demonstrates how the real estate sector can serve as an integrated economic driver that stimulates growth in construction, tourism, services and financial sectors.
