
Luque : CONMEBOL President Alejandro Dominguez and Venezuela's Acting President Delcy Rodriguez congratulated Argentina after the defending champions secured a place in the FIFA World Cup final with a 2-1 victory over England.
Argentina booked their place in the World Cup final after defeating England 2-1 in the semifinal. The reigning world champions will face Spain in Sunday's title clash as they seek to retain the FIFA World Cup trophy.
In a post on X, Dominguez hailed Argentina's achievement and urged the team to bring the trophy back to South America.
"Come on, Argentina! Come on, South America! Another Final, let's go for the Cup again. Football, attitude, and a team that always Believes Big. Congratulations on another historic victory and for representing all of South America. On Sunday, let's bring the Cup back home again," Dominguez wrote.
Venezuela's Acting President Delcy Rodriguez also congratulated the Lionel Scaloni-led side, calling Argentina's qualification for a second successive World Cup final a proud moment for the continent.
"Big excitement for South America: Argentina advances to the Football World Cup final for the second consecutive time!! CONGRATULATIONS!" Rodriguez wrote on X.
Coming to the contest, the first half was a tightly contested battle, with both teams fighting for midfield control and creating limited clear chances. England eventually broke the deadlock in the 55th minute when Anthony Gordon finished Morgan Rogers' cross to put the Three Lions ahead.
After taking the lead, England dropped deeper defensively, allowing Argentina to build pressure. The defending champions responded strongly, with Jordan Pickford making key saves and Alexis Mac Allister hitting the post before Argentina found the equaliser. In the 85th minute, Enzo Fernandez struck after receiving a pass from Lionel Messi to level the match.
Argentina completed their comeback in stoppage time when Messi delivered a cross for Lautaro Martinez, who headed home the winner. Despite England's late efforts, Argentina held on to reach the final. England will now face France for third place, while Argentina will meet Spain for the title.
