CPA , Environment Authority inspect Barka shops over plastic bag ban

Muscat: The Consumer Protection Authority (CPA), in cooperation with the Environment Authority, has intensified inspections in Barka to ensure commercial establishments are complying with Oman’s ban on plastic shopping bags.

The Consumer Protection Department in Barka, South Al Batinah Governorate, carried out field inspections covering a number of commercial establishments as part of ongoing efforts to monitor implementation of the fifth phase of the decision prohibiting the use of plastic shopping bags.

The inspections aim to strengthen compliance with environmental regulations while raising awareness among businesses of the importance of reducing the use of single-use plastic bags.

The CPA said the joint campaign supports the country's broader environmental sustainability goals by encouraging eco-friendly alternatives and promoting responsible business practices. The initiative also seeks to protect the environment for future generations through stricter enforcement of the plastic bag ban.

Authorities urged commercial establishments to continue adhering to the regulations and contribute to national efforts to reduce plastic waste and preserve Oman’s natural environment.
