MUSCAT: Oman’s spectacular landscapes and rich cultural appeal have found a new platform through the latest music album by Indian singer Madhubanti Bagchi, showcasing the Sultanate as a destination of natural beauty, heritage and diverse experiences.
The music video for “Banjaare (Following The Sun)”, Bagchi’s latest release, features a series of iconic locations and moments from her visit to Oman, bringing the country’s natural and cultural attractions to audiences through music.
The video opens with Oman’s famous orange-and-white taxis heading towards Muttrah, followed by footage of a ticket from Bagchi’s performance at the Sheraton Oman last year, an event for which Times of Oman was a media partner.
The video then takes viewers through Oman’s landscapes and landmarks, including the mountains around Al Bustan, Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, a cruise ship docked at Muttrah Port, Ruwi Street, Mutrah Gate and the traditional incense burner at Muttrah.
It also features footage of Bagchi’s arrival at Muscat International Airport, where she received a grand welcome, as well as Oman’s rugged mountains, the Big Bus Muscat tour, an Oman Air aircraft taking off from Muscat International Airport and views of Ruwi High Street from the Sheraton Oman, where she stayed during her visit.
“Banjaare (Following The Sun)” is an Indian reimagining of the international hit “Following The Sun”, pairing international electronic production with Hindi vocals and the spirit of the open road. “The open road is my home; mine is a wanderer’s tale,” Bagchi said.
She opens the song in Hindi before moving into a Hindi verse that flows into the original chorus by SUPER-Hi and NEEKA.
Her vocals are complemented by electric slide guitar, adding an earthy, distinctly Indian dimension to the electronic production.
The track is accompanied by a raw, globe-trotting music video that captures its themes of movement and discovery.
Shot in a vlog-style format, it documents Bagchi’s travels through Mumbai, Oman and the US and Lagos, where she has performed over the past few months.
Rather than following a traditionally produced narrative, the video captures the reality of life on the move — travel, performances, new cities and spontaneous moments along the way.
For Bagchi, the collaboration brings a long-standing connection with the original song full circle. “My love for ‘Following The Sun’ dates back to 2021 and it’s been a forever jam for me. Looking at how the growth started happening in India this year, I was honoured to be a part of creating a version that finds its home in India as well as for all the Indians around the world,” she said.
“What SUPER-Hi and NEEKA have done to the track is already so beautiful, and my version of ‘Banjaare’ gives depth to those who love getting lost and for the ones who find the joy in being out there,” she added.
Bagchi’s association with Oman adds an international cultural dimension to the project, strengthening the connection between India’s vibrant music industry and Oman’s growing tourism profile.
With Indian visitors forming an important segment of Oman’s international tourism market, creative collaborations such as this can help introduce the Sultanate to a wider Indian audience while highlighting its distinctive landscapes, culture and hospitality.
“Banjaare” connects a global dance-pop hit that has amassed 550 million streams with Bagchi’s substantial audience.
She is currently among the Top 75 artists on YouTube’s weekly Top Artists chart in India, recording around 28 million weekly YouTube views, while her Spotify audience stands at 14 million monthly listeners.
