Oman hosts 2nd meeting of Executive Body of International Dates Council

Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, hosted on Thursday the second meeting of the Executive Body of the International Dates Council in its sixth session.

The meeting was chaired by Dr. Sulaiman Ali Al Khatib, Chairman of the Executive Body.

The meeting addressed the discussion of a study on member states' financial contributions and mechanisms to enhance the Council's financial sustainability, the United Nations report on date standards, and the review of the international date standard, including technical topics related to date specifications.

The meeting reviewed a proposed mechanism for organising the Council's specialized committees, including updating membership, terms and mechanisms for nomination and selection, as well as committee tasks and work mechanisms, thereby enhancing their effectiveness in preparing technical studies and recommendations, and contributing to the development of international specifications and standards for dates.

The Sultanate of Oman's hosting of this meeting comes in affirmation of the importance of enhancing international cooperation in the palm and date sector, exchanging expertise and experiences, and supporting efforts aimed at developing the sector, ensuring its sustainability, and elevating its competitiveness, thereby enhancing its contribution to the food security ecosystem and agricultural development.
