Salalah: The Municipal Council of Dhofar Governorate held today its seventh periodic meeting for 2026, under the chairmanship of Sayyid Marwan bin Turki Al Said, Governor of Dhofar and Chairman of the Council.
During the meeting, the Legal Affairs Committee discussed the outcomes of its meetings with competent authorities, which dealt with a number of proposals aimed at developing and organizing "Sanad" Service Centers to enhance their efficiency and ensure their compliance with regulatory bylaws, alongside the committee's proposals regarding regulations for organizing commercial registers to contribute to their stability and address regulatory issues in markets.
The Council also reviewed the executive position of the Social Affairs Committee's work during the first half of this year. In coordination with the Directorate General of Health Services and the Directorate General of Social Development in Dhofar Governorate, the committee discussed a number of topics related to improving services provided to chronic disease patients, cancer patients, and persons with disabilities within the governorate, as well as while receiving treatment in Muscat Governorate.
On the health and environmental front, the Council was briefed on the work of the Health and Environmental Affairs Committee and the results of its meetings with relevant bodies, which addressed a number of proposals to enhance scenic view and waterfront projects across various wilayats of the governorate, contributing to boosting tourism attraction, stimulating the local economy, and diversifying the tourism product.
During the meeting, a report was presented by the Governorate Development Committee before the Council regarding developments and proposals aimed at addressing traffic congestion on vital roads in the Wilayat of Salalah.
The Council discussed responses from several entities regarding recommendations previously issued by the Council, including intensifying community awareness efforts regarding the national platform "Tawteen", enhancing future skills among jobseekers in various fields, alongside a statement from the Directorate General of Health Services concerning strengthening the Omanisation process and developing national human resources in medical and allied medical specialties.
The Council touched upon a statement from the Directorate General of Social Development regarding initiatives to organize training programs for persons with disabilities and enhance their presence and participation in events and seasons in Dhofar Governorate.
The session also addressed a statement from Dhofar Municipality regarding the Council's recommendation related to developing and maintaining water springs, alongside a statement from the Directorate General of Roads and Land Transport at the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology regarding placing the dualization project of the (Thumrait – Al Mazyona) road and the main road in the Wilayat of Al Mazyona among the priorities of the ministry's upcoming five-year plan.
