New York — Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Foreign Minister, held some meetings with foreign ministers of a number of countries around the world, as well as senior officials and representatives of international organizations, on the sideslines of the Sultanate of Oman’s participation in the eighty-first session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The Foreign Minister met with Dr. Johann Wadephul, Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs of Germany. The two sides addressed a set of issues of mutual interest on the agenda of the eighty-first session of the General Assembly, particularly regional issues in the Middle East, the Gulf and Europe.
The two Ministers also touched upon Omani-German relations and opportunities to build upon existing cooperation and develop its areas, in a manner that fosters mutual interests and strengthens the economic partnership between the two countries.
Meanwhile, Sayyid Badr and Dr. Abdullah Al-Alimi Bawazir, Vice-Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council of the Republic of Yemen, discussed, during a meeting at the United Nations headquarters in New York, the fraternal relations between the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Yemen and ways to support the work of the Joint Committee concerned with developing the exchange of expertise and a partnership of benefit to the two brotherly countries and peoples.
The two sides also reviewed the latest developments in the Yemeni situation and the efforts exerted to support the track of achieving consensus among the various components of the parties in Yemen in pursuit of peace and harmony, affirming the importance of creating the conditions for a Yemeni dialogue that leads to a comprehensive and consensual political settlement that meets the aspirations of the brotherly Yemeni people and preserves Yemen’s unity, autonomy, security and stability.
Sayyid Badr, also discussed, during a meeting with Prince Abdul Mateen, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brunei Darussalam, the relations of cooperation and friendship between the Sultanate of Oman and Brunei Darussalam and ways to build upon the development and growth they are witnessing, as well as exploring further opportunities for partnership in a manner that achieves further common interests for the two friendly countries and peoples.
The two sides exchanged views on a number of regional and international issues, affirming the importance of sustaining consultation, enhancing understanding and supporting dialogue to settle disputes and safeguard regional and international security and stability.
Sayyid Badr also met with Kaja Kallas, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission. The two sides reviewed the relations of cooperation between the Sultanate of Oman and the European Union and discussed ways to develop them and enhance cooperation in the diplomatic and technical fields, in the service of the interests of both sides.
The meeting addressed the latest developments in regional issues and the efforts exerted to resolve them by diplomatic and political means, de-escalate tension and support efforts for security and stability.
Meanwhile, Sayyid Badr reviewed, during a meeting with Sirajuddin Mehrali, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Omani-Tajik relations and means of promoting them to serve the joint interests.
The two Ministers also discussed a number of issues of mutual interest and exchanged views thereon, in a manner that supports efforts for the peaceful settlement of disputes and strengthens the pillars of security and stability.
