Muscat: BP Oman, in collaboration with Oman Sail, has launched the third edition of the "Sail Free" programme. The initiative aims to empower people with disabilities through sailing, enhance their participation in sports and the community, and develop their technical and life skills.
The partnership agreement was signed at the Children’s Public Library by Najla bint Zuhair Al-Jamali, President of BP Oman, and Dr. Khamis bin Salim Al-Jabri, CEO of Oman Sail.
This third edition builds upon the success of previous versions, which provided participants with disabilities the opportunity to discover sailing and develop their technical and personal skills. The program offers a training pathway that allows them to progress to advanced levels and participate in local and international competitions.
In this new edition, the program focuses on developing sailing proficiency and fostering essential life skills such as teamwork, leadership, self-confidence, and independence within a safe training environment tailored to the participants' needs. It also aims to promote equal opportunities and showcase their capabilities and talents in the sporting arena. Since its launch in 2019, the "SailFree" program has introduced hundreds of people with disabilities to the sport of sailing, provided a pathway for developing their athletic and personal capabilities, contributed to the establishment of the first national Para-sailing team, and enabled participants to compete in local and international events.
The program’s presence in international competition is further bolstered by Oman Sail’s hosting of the inaugural Para-sailing World Championship in 2025 at the Mussanah Sailing School. This event features sailors from the "SailFree" program alongside more than 100 sailors from around the world, offering participants the opportunity to experience global competition for the first time.
