
Muscat: Oman Society of Astronomy and Space (OSAS) is organising a programme to mark the World Space Week, being observed this year from 4 to 10 October.
The event, which aims to highlight the contributions of space science and technology to the amelioration of human life, showcases scientific and technical achievements in this field and encourages students and young people to take an interest in science and innovation. The event, which takes the theme “Rocket Revolution”, highlights the rapid advancements in space launch technologies and their role in expanding access to space.
Speaking on the occasion, Shahad bint Rashid Al Hosni, Deputy Chairperson of the Space Sciences Committee at Oman Society of Astronomy and Space, said that the World Space Week provides an opportunity to consolidate public awareness about the importance of space science and its applications. The event also serves to highlight the transformations within the sector and encourage students and youth to explore related scholarly and technical fields, she added.
Shahad underlined the efforts made by OSAS to enhance educational activities and programmes targeting different segments of society, with special emphasis on students and youth.
The programmes organised by OSAS include astronomical observation events and educational workshops covering topics in astronomy, space science and related technologies, said Shahad Al Hosni, noting that the theme “Rocket Revolution” highlights a key factor in the evolution of space activities, the development of spacecrafts and the launch of scientific missions into orbit and beyond.
