Oman’s film 'Beta Carotene' opts for Award at Algeria International Contemporary Cinema Days

Algiers--- The Sultanate of Oman is taking part in the inaugural events of Algeria International Contemporary Cinema Days.

At the event, held at the Regional Theatre in El Eulma, Algeria, Oman is participating in the event with the short film titled "Beta Carotene", which is directed by Mohammed Al Daroushi.

The event, which showcases artistic works from 13 countries, will run until 4 November 2026.

The Omani film highlights the charm and beauty of Oman’s natural landscape, as well as the country’s unique geological lakes known for their striking natural colours. The film derives its title from "beta carotene", a substance associated with microorganisms like marine algae that lend those Omani lakes their distinctive hues and environmental significance.

The film is part of the festival’s official competition, which features 30 short films (each lasting between 15 and 30 minutes) selected from 420 inputs reviewed by the festival’s jury in May 2026.

Oman’s participation in the event also underscores the importance of cultural and cinematic exchange between nations, helping them to build bridges of communication.
